Fylde Coast RBN Careers Fair – 31st January 2024

Due to the success of last year’s Careers Fair, we are hosting the event next academic term for the new Year 9 students ahead of them taking their GCSE options.

We have secured the Blackpool Conference and Exhibition Centre and would be delighted if your organisation can join us to inspire the young people of Blackpool on the breadth of careers available to them.

Our vision is to make the event as engaging as possible for students, so we would ask that you consider the following if you are able to attend: 

• Who is best placed from your organisation to attend – we want people who can confidently speak to young people who might be a little shy about asking questions?  
• What can you bring along to bring your exhibition to life! What equipment could you bring or what demonstrations could you do that would make your stand interactive. 
• Consider how you might link your various roles to the curriculum, how can you show that English or Maths for example are important in your organisation. 
• Can you explain the cultural fit of your organisation so that young people understand the different values and behaviours that are expected within your workplace?
• Can you explain the variety of roles that are available, from receptionist, cleaners, administrators, accountants, marketing – not just traditional roles that young people may expect from certain organisations. 
• Could you bring along an apprentice, they are relatable to young people who have recently been in a similar situation themselves. 

What do you get out of it? 

• Educate young people to make informed decisions about what pathways to choose to enter your industry (research suggests that school staff believe these employer-led events expand young people’s knowledge of professions, using the advice given from employer visits to develop their career ambitions and begin practical measures to achieving them) 
• Young people who enter your workplace are better prepared as they have a better understanding of employability skills required (some young people may not interact with adults outside of their immediate family and school) 
• A future talent pipeline – many industries are reporting a future skills gap 
• Challenge gender stereotypes and recruit more females/males into your industry 
• Social Value – you are supporting the future workforce of the Fylde Coast and helping them realise their true potential and breaking down barriers
